Salman Khan's highly anticipated film ‘Sikandar’ is gearing up for a massive release this Eid, March 30. Despite an initially low buzz—partly due to the trailer being released just a week before—the excitement has surged, as evidenced by soaring ticket prices.
Advance bookings opened on Thursday, and ticket prices across the country are skyrocketing. In Mumbai, multiplexes are offering premium "director's cut" or "luxe" tickets for as much as Rs 2200. In Delhi, these prices range between Rs 1600 and Rs 1900. Even regular multiplex seats in major cities are priced as high as Rs 850-900. Surprisingly, many of these high-priced shows are already sold out, especially in Delhi-NCR.
Single-screen theatres, typically known for affordable tickets, are also experiencing an unusual surge. In Mumbai’s Dadar, Plaza Cinema is selling recliner seats for Rs 700—a significant jump from usual prices. While some see this as a sign of immense demand, others worry that steep prices might deter the mass audience that typically frequents single screens. However, not all single screens are following this trend; Delhi’s Delite Theatre, for instance, is offering tickets in the more modest range of Rs 90-200.
The buzz around ‘Sikandar’ is undoubtedly building, with advance bookings raking in nearly Rs 4 crore within 24 hours. Given Salman Khan’s strong fanbase, analysts expect spot bookings in smaller centres to significantly boost the film’s day-one collection.
Directed by AR Murugadoss, ‘Sikandar’ features an ensemble cast including Rashmika Mandanna, Kajal Aggarwal, Sharman Joshi, and Sathyaraj. With two days left before release, the film appears poised for a blockbuster opening.
