Musician Amaal Mallik has publicly announced his decision to step back from familial ties, revealing deep-seated issues within his family. In a heartfelt Instagram post on Thursday, March 20, Mallik disclosed that his strained relationship with his brother, singer Armaan Malik, stemmed from their parents' actions. He shared his battle with clinical depression, attributing much of his emotional turmoil to family dynamics.
"I've reached a point where I can no longer keep silent about the pain I've endured," Mallik wrote candidly. "For years, I've been made to feel like I am less despite spending days & nights toiling away to make a safe life for my people." He recalled the sacrifices behind his musical career, crafting over "126 melodies" in the past decade alongside Armaan, aiming to break free from being labelled as someone's nephew or son.
Blaming his parents for their role in exacerbating their sibling discord, Mallik expressed profound emotional scars and diminished self-worth. Despite these challenges, he affirmed his resilience: "I believe I'm unshakable. Everything that we stand on today has come from one mind, mine and the blessings of the Almighty."
The composer added, “What really matters is that I am clinically depressed because of these happenings. Yes, I have only myself to blame for my actions but my self-worth has been diminished countless times by actions of near and dear ones that stole pieces of my soul."
In a poignant conclusion, Mallik announced his decision to limit interactions with his family to strictly professional terms, emphasizing the need to heal and reclaim his life. "I refuse to let the past rob me of my future any longer," he declared.
Meanwhile, his mother Jyothi Mallik, declined to comment extensively, indicating a desire for privacy amid the family's personal turmoil.
