Bollywood actor Ranbir Kapoor has described his upcoming film Ramayana as a “life-defining” project, saying the experience has significantly influenced his personal values and helped him become a better father to his daughter, Raha Kapoor. The actor made the remarks during a recent interview with a top magazine, where he reflected on how portraying Lord Rama impacted his outlook on life and responsibility. The film, directed by Nitesh Tiwari, is among the most ambitious projects in Indian cinema and is currently in production ahead of its planned release.
Kapoor said he initially had doubts about whether he would be able to do justice to the role of Lord Rama, an iconic figure in Indian mythology. He admitted that he questioned his own suitability for the part but gradually developed a deeper connection with the character and the epic narrative. Over time, he said, the experience shifted from uncertainty to gratitude as he immersed himself in the themes of Ramayana, including duty, sacrifice, and righteousness.
The actor explained that working on the film brought major personal changes in his life. He stated that it influenced his value system and changed the way he perceives loss, responsibility, and moral discipline. Kapoor also said the role encouraged him to reflect on his own behavior, adding that certain personal habits were altered during the process. He described the experience as transformative, noting that it arrived at a time when he needed such introspection.

Kapoor also connected the film’s impact to his journey as a father, saying that becoming a parent and working on Ramayana happened simultaneously, making the experience more meaningful. He said his daughter Raha played a significant role in shaping his emotional growth, while the film reinforced his sense of responsibility and self-awareness. According to him, both experiences together helped him evolve as a person in parallel ways.
The actor shared that the timing of the project felt coincidental yet significant, as it aligned with a phase of personal change in his life. He described the opportunity to work on a film rooted in cultural and historical themes as a privilege. Kapoor expressed gratitude for being part of what he called a large-scale and authentic cinematic retelling of an epic narrative, calling it a blessing in his career and life.
Ramayana is being produced on a reported budget of around ₹4000 crore and is planned as a two-part epic. The film stars Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama, Sai Pallavi as Sita, Yash as Ravana, Ravi Dubey as Lakshman, and Sunny Deol as Lord Hanuman. The first part is scheduled for a Diwali 2026 release, followed by the second installment in Diwali 2027.
