The trailer of Raja Shivaji, an upcoming Hindi-Marathi film directed by Riteish Deshmukh, was unveiled at a grand event in Mumbai on Monday, bringing together a star-studded ensemble cast and generating significant buzz ahead of its release. Riteish, who also essays the role of the legendary Maratha warrior Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, was joined by his wife, actor and co-producer Genelia Deshmukh, along with several prominent actors from the film.
During the event, actor Bhagyashree shared a light-hearted anecdote from the film’s shoot, recalling how Genelia would often look after Riteish on set. She remarked that Genelia would “chase and feed” him during long shooting schedules, drawing laughter from the audience and offering a glimpse into the couple’s off-screen bond amid the demanding production environment.
The film also features veteran actor Sanjay Dutt, who plays the antagonist Afzal Khan. Speaking at the launch, Sanjay said he agreed to be part of the project due to his long-standing personal and professional relationship with Riteish. He described Riteish as “like a younger brother” and emphasized the deep connection between their families, noting that their fathers, Sunil Dutt and Vilasrao Deshmukh, had worked together in the Indian National Congress.

Other notable cast members present at the trailer launch included Abhishek Bachchan, Vidya Balan, and Boman Irani, each contributing to the film’s high-profile ensemble. The project is being positioned as an ambitious historical drama that aims to bring the life and legacy of Shivaji Maharaj to a wide audience across languages.
The film’s narrative is expected to explore key moments from the life of the Maratha ruler, focusing on his military strategies, leadership, and resistance against powerful adversaries. With its blend of historical storytelling and cinematic scale, Raja Shivaji seeks to appeal to both regional and national audiences, reflecting a growing trend of multilingual productions in Indian cinema.
Industry observers note that the collaboration of established stars and the involvement of Riteish Deshmukh in multiple roles—as actor, director, and producer—adds to the anticipation surrounding the film. As promotional activities begin with the trailer launch, the makers are expected to build momentum in the coming weeks, positioning Raja Shivaji as a major release in the historical drama genre.
