John Abraham, ahead of his new film "The Diplomat," met External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Thursday to discuss diplomacy, football, the northeast, and the upcoming movie. Directed by Shivam Nair, "The Diplomat" hits theatres on Friday.
"An interesting conversation with @TheJohnAbraham on his new movie 'The Diplomat.' As well as on football, the North East, and our respective worlds," Jaishankar shared on X alongside photos from their meeting, holding a jersey with 'Jaishankar' and the number 9.
"It was a pleasure and honor to meet a man whom I so intently follow. We discussed diplomacy, the North East, and football among many other things. Truly an honor Sir! @DrSJaishankar @NEUtdFC #TheDiplomat," Abraham commented while reposting Jaishankar's post on X.
On Thursday, filmmaker Anurag Kashyap recently lauded John Abraham’s performance in the upcoming political thriller ‘The Diplomat’, set to hit theatres on March 14. Kashyap, who previously worked with John in ‘No Smoking’ (2007), praised the actor for delivering a nuanced performance, free from unnecessary action or “herogiri.”
According to Shivam Nair, known for directing "Naam Shabana" and "Special Ops," "The Diplomat" features Abraham in a compelling role inspired by real events. The film revolves around Abraham's character, a diplomat, who intervenes to rescue Indian woman Uzma, portrayed by Sadia Khateeb, from Pakistan. Directed by Shivam Nair and produced by Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar, and John Abraham, among others, The Diplomat also features Sadia Khateeb, Prapti Shukla, Jagjeet Sandhu, and Sharib Hashmi in key roles.
Meanwhile, John Abraham recently reflected on his 2005 film ‘Water’, which earned an Oscar nomination for Best Foreign Language Film but went largely unnoticed in India. In an interview with BookMyShow’s YouTube channel, John recalled receiving praise from Hollywood icons while struggling for recognition at home. With ‘The Diplomat’, John looks set to break more stereotypes and showcase his depth as an actor once again.
