Comedian and Actor Jamie Lever recently opened up about a difficult chapter in her family’s life, recalling how her brother Jesse Lever battled a serious neck tumour during his childhood. In a recent interview, Jamie described the emotional turmoil her family went through during the health crisis, which occurred when Jesse was still in school. The experience, she said, deeply changed their perspective on life and strengthened their faith and family bonds.
Jamie revealed that the health issue began when Jesse was young and the tumour gradually became more severe over time. She said that as the swelling around his neck increased, it began affecting his comfort and confidence. According to Jamie, Jesse started feeling self-conscious about his appearance and even changed the way he dressed in order to hide the swelling caused by the tumour.
The situation eventually required complex medical treatment and surgery, placing immense emotional pressure on the family. Jamie explained that the experience forced the family to confront a frightening reality, especially when doctors initially expressed serious concerns about the situation. During that period, she said the family relied heavily on faith and spirituality to cope with the uncertainty surrounding Jesse’s health.

Jamie also recalled that Jesse underwent multiple surgeries during the course of his treatment. The first surgery took place in Mumbai but did not succeed as expected. The family later travelled to the United States, where Jesse underwent another lengthy and complicated operation. According to Jamie, the entire treatment process—including surgeries, medication, and recovery—lasted nearly two years.
The decision to pursue treatment abroad was not originally planned. Jamie said the family had initially travelled to the United States for a summer vacation when friends of their father, veteran actor and comedian Johnny Lever, suggested consulting specialists there. Those consultations eventually led to a surgery that proved successful and ultimately saved Jesse’s life.
Reflecting on the ordeal, Jamie said the experience brought the family closer together and changed their priorities. She added that although rumours had once circulated claiming Jesse had cancer, the condition was actually a tumour and not cancerous. Today, she said the family feels grateful for Jesse’s recovery and proud of the person he has become after overcoming such a life-threatening challenge at a young age.
