Veteran Malayalam actor Mammootty was conferred the Padma Bhushan by President Droupadi Murmu at the second investiture ceremony held at Rashtrapati Bhavan on June 23, marking a major national recognition for his contributions to Indian cinema. The ceremony, held in the capital, brought together several distinguished recipients of India’s civilian honours, with the actor’s family present to witness the occasion.
The event was attended by Mammootty’s son, actor Dulquer Salmaan, along with his wife Sulfath Kutty, daughter Kutty Surumi, and daughter-in-law Amal. Following the ceremony, Dulquer shared a series of photographs on social media capturing moments from the event, including interactions with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The images showed the family together in formal settings, marking a rare public appearance of the extended family at a national-level state function.
In his post, Dulquer described the experience as deeply meaningful, calling it a privilege to meet and spend time with the Prime Minister while witnessing his father being honoured for his lifelong contribution to cinema. He referred to the occasion as an “unforgettable day” for the family, highlighting the emotional significance of the recognition and the pride shared by all members present.

His body of work extends across multiple languages, including Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, and Hindi, establishing him as a pan-Indian performer known for both commercial successes and critically acclaimed roles. Over the years, he has received numerous awards for his performances and continues to remain active in the film industry.
Beyond cinema, Mammootty is also known for his involvement in philanthropic and social initiatives. At the time of the announcement, the actor expressed gratitude for the honour, stating that recognition from the nation held a deeply emotional value and represented one of the highest achievements of his career.
The Padma Bhushan is one of India’s highest civilian awards, and this year’s list included 131 recipients across various categories. The honours comprised five Padma Vibhushan, 13 Padma Bhushan, and 113 Padma Shri awards. Announced annually on Republic Day and presented later by the President, the awards recognise excellence in fields such as arts, literature, education, medicine, science, public affairs, and social service. Mammootty’s inclusion in the list places him among a distinguished group of individuals acknowledged for their outstanding contributions to the nation.
