Filmmakers Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari and Shoojit Sircar have been appointed as jury members for the Short Film Competition at the upcoming Indian Film Festival of Melbourne (IFFM) 2025. The announcement was made via an official press release on Wednesday.
Both Tiwari and Sircar are highly regarded for their contributions to Indian cinema. Tiwari is known for directing critically acclaimed films such as Bareilly Ki Barfi and Nil Battey Sannata, while Sircar’s directorial credits include Piku, October, and Sardar Udham, which have earned widespread recognition both in India and internationally.
Expressing her appreciation for the opportunity, Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari stated, “It’s an absolute honour to be on the jury of IFFM’s Short Film Competition. Short films are a powerful form of expression, often brimming with fresh ideas and daring perspectives. I’m looking forward to witnessing stories that reflect truth, innovation, and the passion of young filmmakers.”

Shoojit Sircar echoed her sentiments, remarking, “IFFM is a wonderful platform that brings together talent from across the globe. I’m delighted to be part of this year’s short film jury. Festival Director Mitu Bhowmik welcomed the esteemed filmmakers to the jury, describing them as “among the most respected creative minds in Indian cinema today.” She added that their involvement would bring immense value to the judging process and serve as an inspiration for emerging talent.
The Indian Film Festival of Melbourne 2025 is scheduled to take place from August 14 to 24, featuring a wide range of screenings, panels, and competitions. The short film segment continues to be one of its most competitive and creatively dynamic categories.
