Bollywood actor Ameesha Patel has publicly criticised what she described as the growing influence of PR-driven publicity in the Hindi film industry, accusing some younger actresses of inflating their stardom through marketing campaigns rather than box office success. In a series of posts on X (formerly Twitter) on Saturday, Ameesha questioned the credibility of actors who label themselves as “number one” stars without major solo hits to their credit.
Ameesha’s comments were aimed broadly at what she called “fake PR machinery” in Bollywood, though she did not name any individuals. She also addressed online trolling and YouTube criticism of celebrities, suggesting that negative content creators benefit financially from targeting film stars. Her remarks reflected a wider frustration with the ecosystem of entertainment media commentary and celebrity branding in the digital age.
The actor further argued that genuine stardom should be defined by strong box office performance rather than promotional narratives. She stated that actors who have not delivered major solo blockbusters should not claim superstar status, adding that appearing in multiple projects does not automatically translate into stardom. Ameesha also questioned industry rankings that allegedly label actors as “number one” or “number two” based on PR influence rather than measurable success.

Referencing her own career, Ameesha highlighted the success of films such as Kaho Naa... Pyaar Hai, Gadar: Ek Prem Katha, and Gadar 2, describing them as major blockbusters that define her standing in the industry. She also claimed that her promotional efforts are not driven by aggressive PR strategies, contrasting herself with what she suggested are heavily marketed industry peers.
Ameesha also hinted at future projects, including a potential third installment in the Gadar franchise, stating that it would be a major theatrical release and expressing confidence in its box office potential. She added that she is also expected to appear in Humraaz 2. Her comments have sparked discussion online about the role of publicity, social media influence, and box office performance in defining modern Bollywood stardom.
