Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles has expanded its Altroz hatchback lineup with the launch of a new CNG variant paired with a 5-speed AMT, making it the only model in its segment to offer a factory-fitted CNG-automatic combination. The new variant is priced between ₹8.70 lakh and ₹10.77 lakh (ex-showroom), positioning it against premium hatchbacks such as the Maruti Suzuki Baleno and Toyota Glanza. The Tata Altroz CNG AMT uses the same 1.2-litre, three-cylinder engine found in its petrol version, but it is paired with a factory-installed twin-cylinder CNG system.
In CNG mode, the engine produces 73.5 hp and 103 Nm of torque, while in petrol mode it delivers a higher output of 88 hp and 115 Nm. The engine is mated to a 5-speed automated manual transmission (AMT), which is shared with the petrol variant, offering added convenience for urban driving. One of the key highlights of the Altroz remains its versatility in powertrain options. Alongside petrol and CNG variants, the hatchback continues to stand out as the only model in its segment that also offers a diesel engine option, giving buyers a wider choice compared to its direct rivals.
In terms of practicality, the CNG variant sees a reduction in boot space due to the twin-cylinder tank setup. It offers 210 litres of luggage capacity, compared to 345 litres in the petrol and diesel versions. Tata has, however, ensured that the CNG-AMT option is available up to the Accomplished S variant, which sits just below the top-spec trim in the lineup.Inside the cabin, the Altroz CNG AMT features a premium design theme with a soft-touch “Grand Prestigia” dashboard.
