Actor Vijay Deverakonda has condemned an AI-generated video that digitally manipulates footage from Janhvi Kapoor and Jr NTR’s song Chuttamalle from Devara, calling the use of artificial intelligence to create sexually explicit imagery without consent deeply disturbing. The altered video has circulated on social media after digitally modifying Janhvi’s appearance in the original song. Vijay’s comments came after Jr NTR also publicly criticised the circulation of the manipulated content and called for action against those responsible.
Vijay Deverakonda expressed strong criticism in a social media post, arguing that the misuse of AI to alter a person’s image in a sexually explicit manner should be treated seriously. “We have stooped to the levels of absolute lowlife,” he wrote, adding that whoever was responsible should face legal consequences. He questioned how such content had become a source of entertainment and raised concerns about the broader social attitudes that allow people to derive enjoyment from digitally degrading others. His remarks focused on the absence of consent and the potential harm caused by manipulated imagery.
The actor also drew attention to the broader debate surrounding artificial intelligence, which has increasingly focused on its impact on employment, creativity and digital media. He argued that technology capable of transforming industries and affecting livelihoods was instead being used to create abusive and degrading material. Describing the manipulated video as “the digital equivalent of sexual assault”, Vijay called for the law to treat such acts with the utmost seriousness. His comments reflect growing concerns around the use of generative AI to create sexually explicit deepfakes involving real people without their permission.

The controversy centres on Chuttamalle, the popular song featuring Janhvi Kapoor and Jr NTR in Devara: Part 1. The original song contains no such explicit imagery, with the viral material created through digital manipulation. AI-generated and altered images and videos of public figures have become increasingly common online, raising questions about consent, privacy, image rights and the responsibility of social media platforms to respond to harmful synthetic content. Such manipulated material can also be difficult for viewers to distinguish from authentic footage once it spreads across multiple platforms.
Vijay also questioned the social environment that allows non-consensual manipulated content to gain attention online. In his statement, he asked, “When did we become so insensitive to each other?” and questioned what kind of society would find amusement in content designed to degrade another person. He also extended his support to those working to challenge the circulation of the AI-generated material. His comments came amid wider calls for stronger safeguards against deepfakes and other forms of digitally manipulated abuse.
The incident has once again highlighted the risks associated with increasingly accessible generative AI tools, particularly when they are used to create sexualised material featuring people who never consented to such depictions. Vijay said those responsible should not be spared and urged authorities to ensure that such cases are taken seriously under the law. The controversy surrounding the manipulated Chuttamalle video adds to the growing debate over how existing legal frameworks and digital platforms should respond when AI is used to fabricate intimate or sexually explicit content involving real individuals.
