The BMW X1 LWB has entered the Indian market with an introductory appeal for buyers looking for a more spacious luxury SUV without moving into a significantly higher price bracket. BMW has launched the long-wheelbase version of the X1 at ₹49.90 lakh (ex-showroom). The model is positioned alongside the standard-wheelbase X1 and the all-electric iX1 LWB, giving buyers multiple options within BMW’s compact luxury SUV range. The X1 LWB is locally manufactured at BMW Group’s Chennai plant. The longer version retains the overall design language and cabin layout of the standard X1, but its stretched body provides additional room for rear passengers.
BMW says the X1 LWB gets 109 mm more rear knee room, making the extended wheelbase one of its key selling points for buyers who regularly travel with passengers in the second row. Powering the BMW X1 LWB is a 1.5-litre, three-cylinder turbo-petrol engine. The unit produces 154 bhp of peak power and 230 Nm of maximum torque. It is paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and sends power to the front wheels. Unlike the standard X1, the long-wheelbase model is currently available only with a petrol powertrain and does not offer a diesel engine or an all-wheel-drive configuration.
For buyers considering financing the SUV, the actual monthly repayment will depend on the loan amount, interest rate, down payment and tenure selected from the lender. For a standardised calculation, the EMI estimate here assumes a loan amount equal to 100 per cent of the ₹49.90 lakh ex-showroom price, an annual interest rate of 9.5 per cent and a repayment period of 36 months. On these assumptions, the estimated monthly EMI works out to approximately ₹1.59 lakh. Over the full three-year repayment period, the total amount paid through the EMI schedule would be around ₹57.18 lakh, assuming the interest rate remains unchanged and ignoring processing charges, taxes, insurance and other applicable fees. This means the estimated interest component would be approximately ₹7.28 lakh over the 36-month period.

The calculation is based only on the ex-showroom price and therefore should not be treated as the final on-road cost of the vehicle. In an actual purchase, the amount financed could be lower if the buyer makes a substantial down payment. A larger upfront payment would reduce the principal borrowed and consequently lower the monthly EMI and total interest payable. Conversely, opting for a longer repayment tenure could bring down the monthly instalment but would generally increase the overall interest paid over the life of the loan. Buyers should therefore compare both EMI affordability and total borrowing costs before choosing a financing plan. The BMW X1 LWB's ₹49.90 lakh ex-showroom price also means buyers need to account for additional expenses when budgeting for the purchase.
Registration charges, road tax, insurance, handling-related costs where applicable and other on-road expenses can push the final purchase price considerably higher than the listed ex-showroom figure. Financing terms also vary between banks and financial institutions, so the actual EMI offered to an individual buyer may differ from the illustrative calculation. With its additional rear-seat space, petrol automatic powertrain and locally manufactured status, the BMW X1 LWB is aimed at buyers seeking a premium SUV with greater passenger room. At the assumed 9.5 per cent interest rate and 36-month tenure, financing the entire ex-showroom price would require an estimated EMI of about ₹1.59 lakh per month. Buyers considering the SUV should obtain a lender-specific quotation and calculate the on-road cost before finalising the purchase.
