Apple's iPhone 18 Pro series is expected to launch in September, with reports pointing to several significant upgrades over the current generation. The Pro models could feature a new 2nm A20 Pro chip, larger batteries, an upgraded camera system and Apple's next-generation in-house modem. Other reported changes include a smaller Dynamic Island, improved display technology and expanded satellite connectivity.
The biggest performance upgrade could come from the A20 Pro chip, which is expected to be Apple's first smartphone processor manufactured using TSMC's 2nm process. Reports suggest it could use Gate-All-Around transistor technology and deliver around 18 per cent more performance while consuming up to 30 per cent less power than the A19 Pro. The efficiency improvements could also help extend battery life during everyday use.
Battery capacity is also expected to increase, particularly on the iPhone 18 Pro Max. Reports indicate that the US version could feature a 5,425mAh battery, while models with a physical SIM slot may use a 5,235mAh cell. These figures would represent an increase over the reported capacities of the iPhone 17 Pro Max, and the combination of a larger battery with the more efficient A20 Pro chip could provide longer usage.

The camera system could receive one of the most notable hardware changes, with Apple reportedly considering a variable-aperture main camera for the Pro Max. The technology would allow the lens to adjust the amount of light entering the sensor and provide greater control over depth of field. Apple is also reportedly considering changes to the Camera Control button, while the Pro models could receive improved telephoto capabilities and additional professional camera controls.
Apple is also expected to introduce its C2 in-house modem in the iPhone 18 Pro lineup, giving the company greater control over cellular connectivity and power management. The devices could feature upgraded LTPO+ displays supplied by Samsung Display and LG Display. Another highly anticipated change is a smaller Dynamic Island, with reports suggesting the cutout could shrink by up to 25 to 35 per cent if parts of the Face ID system are moved beneath the display.
Satellite connectivity could also expand beyond emergency services. Reports suggest Apple is exploring satellite-based 5G connectivity that could potentially provide internet access in areas without conventional cellular coverage. The feature could debut on the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max, although its practical availability would depend on satellite infrastructure and support in individual markets.
The expected upgrades could also push up the price of Apple's Pro models in India. Current estimates put the starting price of the iPhone 18 Pro at around Rs 1,39,900, compared with the reported Rs 1,34,900 starting price of the iPhone 17 Pro. The 256GB model could cost around Rs 1,44,900, while the iPhone 18 Pro Max may start at approximately Rs 1,54,900. However, all specifications, features and prices remain subject to Apple's official announcement.
