Several parts of Tamil Nadu, including Chennai and its suburbs, received rain on Sunday as the India Meteorological Department forecast continued showers across the state and neighbouring Puducherry. The rainfall lowered temperatures in the state capital and offered residents some relief from the warm conditions experienced in recent days.

Moderate showers were reported in Chennai localities including Kodambakkam, Nungambakkam, Vadapalani and T Nagar. Suburban areas such as Perungalathur and Vandalur also experienced spells of rain. While the showers provided respite from the heat, changing road conditions affected movement in parts of the city and its surrounding areas.

Some localities in Chengalpattu district received heavier rain accompanied by strong winds. Rainfall continued for more than 30 minutes in Thirumani, Vallam and Alapakkam, disrupting normal activity in parts of the district. Residents and motorists were advised to remain cautious in areas experiencing reduced visibility or water accumulation.

Heavy rain was also recorded in parts of Ranipet district, particularly Walajapet, Arcot and Kaveripakkam. The downpour led to waterlogging along low-lying stretches of several roads, causing inconvenience to motorists and residents. No major damage or rain-related casualties were reported in the initial weather updates.

In neighbouring Tiruvallur district, moderate rainfall was reported from Vedanginallur, Tirupachur, Pullarambakkam, Poondi, Bheemanthoppu, Punnapakkam and Ekkadu, among other locations. The widespread showers reflected the unsettled weather affecting northern Tamil Nadu and areas surrounding the Chennai metropolitan region.

The weather department forecast moderate rainfall in districts situated along the Western Ghats on Sunday. Light to moderate showers were also expected at one or two places across the remaining districts of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. The unsettled conditions could continue over the coming days, with earlier forecasts indicating that moderate rainfall may persist in parts of the state until August 14.
