Bollywood Actor Vivek Oberoi has firmly refuted long-standing rumours that a serious on-set accident in 2004 derailed his career and forced him out of physically demanding roles. Addressing the speculation in a detailed statement released on Tuesday, the actor clarified that while the injury was significant, it never hindered his ability to perform challenging sequences or continue working in films.
The incident occurred during the shooting of Mani Ratnam’s Yuva, where Vivek sustained multiple fractures in his leg. He underwent surgery that involved inserting an 18-inch titanium rod. Recovery proved tough both physically and mentally, but Vivek credited Dr. Ali Irani—former physiotherapist for the Indian Cricket Team and Head of Physiotherapy at Nanavati Hospital—and his team for enabling a remarkable turnaround. Thanks to their expertise, he regained full mobility in just three months and returned to dancing and executing intense action scenes.
Vivek highlighted that the accident was merely a temporary setback in an otherwise rewarding career. He pointed to several successful projects post-recovery, including standout performances in Omkara (2006), Shootout at Lokhandwala (2007), Mission Istanbul (2008), Prince (2010), and Krrish 3 (2013). These roles allowed him to push creative boundaries without any compromise, proving the injury did not define or limit his professional trajectory.

The actor expressed deep gratitude towards Dr. Irani and his team, stating their guidance was instrumental in helping him bounce back stronger. His statement comes amid ongoing online discussions about his relatively lower visibility in mainstream Bollywood in recent years, with many attributing it to the old injury. Vivek’s clarification aims to set the record straight and shift focus back to his continued passion for the craft.
On the work front, Vivek was last seen in the comedy Mastii 4 alongside Riteish Deshmukh and Aftab Shivdasani. Fans have welcomed his candid response, appreciating the transparency about a challenging chapter in his journey.
