Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Mohsin Naqvi has reportedly been invited to attend the upcoming International Cricket Council (ICC) Board meetings in Ahmedabad, which are scheduled to coincide with the IPL 2026 final weekend at the Narendra Modi Stadium, according to reports. The ICC meetings, initially planned to be held in Doha earlier this year, were later shifted to India. As per the revised schedule, the Chief Executives’ Committee meeting is set to be conducted virtually on May 21, followed by in-person Board meetings on May 30 and 31 in Ahmedabad.
Sources indicate that Naqvi has also been extended an invitation to attend the IPL 2026 final during his potential visit. However, his travel is expected to depend on clearance from Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, given the sensitive diplomatic and sporting dynamics between India and Pakistan. The ICC agenda for the Ahmedabad meetings is expected to include several key governance and structural discussions. Among the major topics is the future framework of the World Test Championship (WTC), including proposals related to bilateral series structures and the overall scheduling model within the cycle.
Board members are also expected to evaluate suggestions for expanding participation in future WTC editions, with discussions reportedly including the possible inclusion of teams such as Zimbabwe, Ireland, and Afghanistan. Broader issues such as revenue distribution models, international calendar planning, and governance reforms are also likely to feature prominently. The potential visit comes amid ongoing friction between the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the PCB over recent years. One notable flashpoint occurred during the 2025 Asia Cup final in Dubai, where reports suggested tensions over the presentation ceremony, including claims that the Indian team did not accept medals and the trophy from Naqvi in his capacity as Asian Cricket Council president.

Additional strain has also been reported in multilateral tournaments, with past disagreements over scheduling and participation decisions further contributing to strained cricketing relations between the two boards.Naqvi’s possible presence at both the ICC meetings and the IPL final has therefore drawn attention, given the broader political and sporting sensitivities involved. His recent remarks on the Pakistan Super League potentially competing commercially with the IPL have further intensified scrutiny around his engagement with Indian cricket stakeholders during the Ahmedabad visit.
