Former Pakistan fast bowler Mohammad Amir has predicted that England cricket team could defeat the India national cricket team in the semifinal of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026, citing concerns about India’s inconsistent batting form during the tournament. Amir’s remarks come ahead of the high-stakes clash scheduled at Wankhede Stadium, where both teams will compete for a place in the final.
The former left-arm pacer suggested that England currently hold the advantage in the encounter, particularly if they end up chasing a target. Speaking during a discussion on the “Haarna Mana Hai” show, Amir said the Mumbai pitch is expected to favour batters and produce a high-scoring match, which could make chasing easier under certain conditions.
Amir noted that the Wankhede surface traditionally produces big totals, and he believes England would benefit if they bat second. According to him, the conditions at the venue could encourage aggressive stroke play, especially as the match progresses. “It’s a good wicket and usually high scoring. If England bat second, they will have more chances,” Amir said while analysing the potential dynamics of the semifinal.

The former Pakistan international also questioned India’s batting consistency during the tournament. He argued that the team has often relied on individual brilliance rather than collective contributions. Amir pointed out that only a handful of Indian players have delivered impactful performances across matches, which in his view leaves the side vulnerable against a strong opponent like England.
Among the players he discussed were Ishan Kishan, Abhishek Sharma, Tilak Varma, Suryakumar Yadav, and Sanju Samson. Amir suggested that several of these players have struggled to maintain form during the Super 8 stage, though he acknowledged that Samson and pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah have delivered notable performances.
Despite India reaching the semifinal stage, Amir maintained that England remain the favourites to progress to the final if India fail to address their batting concerns. The upcoming match at Wankhede is widely expected to be one of the most closely watched fixtures of the tournament, with both teams boasting explosive batting line-ups and experienced bowling attacks capable of influencing the outcome.
