Mithun Manhas, a former Delhi Cricket Captain, filed his nomination for the position of president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Sunday at the board's headquarters in Mumbai, just ahead of the afternoon deadline. The 45-year-old cricketer, who represented Delhi in domestic tournaments from the 1997-98 season until his retirement in 2016-17, played 157 first-class matches, 130 List A games, and 91 T20s during his career. His candidacy comes as the BCCI prepares to elect a new administrative committee following the end of Roger Binny's term as president last month.
Manhas emerged as a leading contender after an informal meeting in New Delhi, where stakeholders decided to endorse him for the top role. The BCCI, India's premier cricket governing body, oversees national team selections, domestic competitions like the IPL, and international fixtures, making the presidency a pivotal position in the sport's administration. Binny's departure has prompted a full slate of elections to refresh the board's leadership amid ongoing efforts to enhance governance and player welfare.
BCCI vice president Rajeev Shukla confirmed the developments, stating that a new body is being formed for the upcoming term, with Manhas positioned as president. Shukla also noted that Arun Dhumal will retain his role as chairman of the IPL Governing Council. Other nominations filed on the day included incumbent secretary Devajit Saikia, Dhumal for his council position, and Raghuram Bhat, president of the Karnataka State Cricket Association and a former India player, who is contesting for treasurer.

The elections will culminate at the BCCI's annual general meeting next Sunday, where key positions will be finalized. This transition underscores the board's emphasis on experienced former players in leadership, potentially influencing strategic decisions on cricket development, anti-corruption measures, and global engagements as India continues to dominate the sport internationally.
