Veteran Indian batter Ajinkya Rahane has offered a reality check to rising cricketer Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, stressing that performing in the Indian Premier League and succeeding at the international level are entirely different challenges. His remarks came as the young batter began finding form following a difficult start to his international career.
Sooryavanshi struggled during his initial appearances in England, registering three consecutive scores of 14, 13 and 15. The low returns made his introduction to international cricket challenging and demonstrated the difficulties young players can encounter while adjusting to unfamiliar conditions and higher-quality bowling attacks.
The batter responded with improved performances during India’s three-match series against Zimbabwe. He recorded scores of 50, 20 and 81, producing two substantial innings and showing signs that he was adapting to the demands of international competition after the setbacks he experienced in England.

Sooryavanshi’s performances against Zimbabwe have generated optimism about his potential and future in Indian cricket. Rahane’s observation highlighted the distinction between domestic franchise cricket and the international game. While IPL performances can provide young cricketers with exposure to pressure and elite players, international cricket requires them to adjust to different formats, conditions, opponents and expectations over a longer period.
Sooryavanshi has remained in focus since emerging on the Indian cricket scene, with his performances attracting considerable attention. His Zimbabwe scores strengthened his case as a promising prospect, but Rahane’s remarks underlined the need for patience and continued development as the young batter attempts to establish himself at the highest level.
