Indian boxer Ankush Panghal made an impressive start to his 2026 Commonwealth Games campaign by defeating Antigua and Barbuda’s Zalaan Jan in the men’s 80kg category to secure a place in the quarterfinals. The 22-year-old registered a dominant 5-0 unanimous decision victory in his debut appearance at the Games, showcasing composure and tactical discipline throughout the contest.

Ankush took control from the opening round, landing clean punches and effective counter-attacks while maintaining a solid defensive structure. His accuracy with hooks and ability to dictate the pace earned him unanimous scores from all five judges, giving the Indian boxer an early advantage.

The momentum continued in the second round as Ankush displayed sharp footwork and ring awareness to stay out of his opponent’s range. He consistently frustrated Zalaan Jan’s attempts to launch attacks while connecting with precise combinations, resulting in another unanimous round in his favour.
