India reached 88/4 after 10 overs against Sri Lanka in the second men's cricket semi-final of the 2026 Asian Games at Korogi Sports Park in Nisshin. Shreyas Iyer's dismissal was the latest setback for India after the captain was bowled by Wanuja Sahan for a short stay at the crease. With the Indian innings losing wickets at regular intervals, Ishan Kishan and Axar Patel were tasked with rebuilding the innings and setting up a competitive total. The match is being played in the T20 format at the Asian Games venue in Nisshin.
Ishan was batting on 13 from 11 deliveries after 10 overs, having already struck a six during his brief stay at the crease. He took on Sahan Arachchige's bowling in the 10th over, backing away and driving towards long off for a single before Axar Patel also rotated the strike. Earlier, Ishan had pulled a short delivery from Vijayakanth Viyaskanth through mid-wicket for a single before taking on another short ball and sending it over deep mid-wicket for six.
Shreyas Iyer's dismissal came on the fourth ball of the ninth over and gave Sri Lanka another important wicket. Wanuja Sahan delivered a ball that landed on middle before turning away, beating Iyer as he attempted to drive and sending the ball into the stumps. Iyer had managed only a brief contribution, although he had struck a boundary earlier in the over by moving forward and chipping the ball over extra cover. Axar then joined Ishan after Iyer's departure.

India had been put into bat after Sri Lanka won the toss and elected to field. The Indian side entered the semi-final with a strong squad featuring several established international players, including Jasprit Bumrah, Ishan Kishan, Sanju Samson and Shreyas Iyer. Bumrah returned to the playing XI after being rested for India's previous competitive match against Japan.
The semi-final is being played after rain disrupted the men's cricket competition in the Asian Games. All four quarter-finals were abandoned, with India and Sri Lanka advancing to the last four on the basis of their higher ICC T20I rankings. Pakistan had already secured its place in the gold-medal match after defeating Bangladesh in the first semi-final, leaving India and Sri Lanka competing for the other final berth.
At the halfway stage, India were 88/4, with Ishan Kishan and Axar Patel at the crease. Sri Lanka's bowlers had kept taking wickets to prevent India from establishing a completely dominant start, while India still had batting resources available to build the total in the remaining overs. With the final place at stake, the partnership between Ishan and Axar became important for India's effort to recover from the loss of Shreyas and post a challenging score.
