Arsenal FC reached the UEFA Champions League final for the first time in 20 years after a 1-0 victory over Atletico Madrid in the semi-final second leg, with Bukayo Saka scoring the decisive goal. The result secured a 2-1 aggregate win for Mikel Arteta’s side, following a 1-1 draw in the first leg in Madrid.
The breakthrough came late in the first half at the Emirates Stadium, where Saka capitalised on a rebound to score from close range. Arsenal maintained their lead through a disciplined defensive display in the second half, holding off Atletico’s attempts to equalise in front of an energised home crowd.
Managed by Mikel Arteta, Arsenal now advance to the final scheduled to take place in Budapest on May 30. They will face either Paris Saint-Germain or Bayern Munich, who are set to contest the other semi-final.

This marks Arsenal’s first appearance in the Champions League final since 2006, when they were defeated by Barcelona. The club has never won Europe’s premier competition, with their only major continental trophies being the Cup Winners’ Cup in 1994 and the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup in 1970.
The current campaign has been one of Arsenal’s strongest in recent history, as they also lead the Premier League title race. With only a few matches remaining domestically, the team is in contention for a historic league and Champions League double.
The victory is being viewed as a defining moment for the club under Arteta, who has overseen a transformation in recent seasons. With momentum on their side, Arsenal now stand just one win away from securing their first Champions League title and achieving one of the most significant milestones in the club’s history.
