Top seeds Yuki Bhambri of India and Sweden’s Andre Göransson cruised into the men’s doubles quarterfinals of the ASB Classic in Auckland on Monday, defeating wild card pair Ajeet Rai and Jean-Julien Rojer 6-3, 6-2. The Indo-Swedish duo showcased superior coordination, strong serving, and sharp net play in a match that lasted just over an hour.
Bhambri and Göransson dominated from the outset, applying constant pressure on their opponents’ service games and converting four break points while saving three of four break opportunities faced. Their commanding performance left Rai and Rojer struggling to establish any rhythm on court.
The win marks another step in Bhambri’s steady resurgence on the doubles circuit. Once a junior world No. 1 in singles, Bhambri has increasingly focused on doubles after recovering from past injuries. His partnership with Göransson, an accomplished doubles specialist, has been producing consistent results on the ATP Tour.

For Göransson, the ASB Classic serves as a critical warm-up ahead of the Australian Open. The pair will aim to build momentum from their authoritative start and carry their strong form into Melbourne, where they hope to make a deep run in the season’s first Grand Slam.
Rai and Rojer, despite occasional resistance, were unable to match the top seeds’ precision and pace. Rojer, a former world No. 3 in doubles returning to competitive action, found it difficult to impose himself against Bhambri and Göransson’s aggressive baseline and net play.
With the quarterfinal berth secured, Bhambri and Göransson will look to extend their impressive form in the later stages of the ASB Classic, maintaining focus on fine-tuning their game ahead of the upcoming Grand Slam.
