An Argentina football fan has launched an online petition calling on FIFA to review and potentially replay the 2026 World Cup final, alleging that key refereeing decisions during the match unfairly favoured Spain. The petition, created by Gisela Sanchez on the online platform Change.org, has attracted tens of thousands of supporters demanding a transparent review of the game’s officiating.
The petition claims that video footage from the final showed a pattern of decisions that went against Argentina during the match. Sanchez described the appeal as a demand for fairness not only for Argentina but also for the future of international football. According to reports, the petition had received around 67,500 signatures, though FIFA has not announced any decision regarding a replay.
Spain won the final 1-0 after Ferran Torres scored a late goal in what was described as a largely one-sided contest. The result sparked frustration among some Argentina supporters, who questioned several moments from referee Slavko Vincic’s performance and called for greater transparency in reviewing major decisions.

The match was followed by controversy after the final whistle, when tensions rose between players from both teams. During Spain’s celebrations, Argentina defender Nahuel Molina was involved in an altercation with Spain captain Rodrigo Hernandez, while Leandro Paredes, Thiago Almada and Argentina assistant coach Roberto Ayala also became involved in the confrontation.
FIFA has started reviewing the incidents that occurred after the match. Spain midfielder Gavi said he did not believe Paredes should receive a suspension for his role, although he acknowledged that such scenes create a negative image for younger fans. He said disciplinary action during the match would have been the more appropriate response.
Former Valencia defender Ayala later apologised for his involvement in the incident, saying emotions affected his behaviour. While the petition continues to gain attention among Argentina supporters, any decision regarding the final will depend on FIFA’s review process and official regulations governing international matches.
