A pair of Zara trousers has gone viral on social media after numerous shoppers alleged that the garment's extra-wide design caused them to trip, fall and suffer injuries. The controversy centres on Zara's Flowy Wide-Leg Trousers, with users across TikTok, Reddit and X sharing videos and photographs claiming the trousers became caught under their feet while walking. The garment has since been nicknamed the "deadly trousers" online as complaints about its design continue to circulate.
Several social media users have described incidents ranging from minor bruises to more serious injuries. One TikTok creator claimed she "face-planted" while wearing the trousers and posted a video showing blood stains on the garment. Another user shared photographs of a severely bruised knee, later stating that the fall resulted in a fractured kneecap requiring the use of crutches and a wheelchair. Other videos reportedly show people tripping on pavements and driveways after the fabric became tangled around their feet.
Beyond concerns over falls, some customers have also complained about the trousers' construction. According to posts shared online, the inner seams and ribbed fabric caused discomfort, chafing and skin irritation after only a few hours of wear. The growing number of complaints has prompted widespread discussion on social media, where users continue to debate whether the issues stem from the design, sizing or the way the trousers are worn.

The discussion has also attracted expert commentary. Fashion design director Emile Vidal Carr told Metro that excessively long and wide-leg trousers can present genuine safety risks by catching on bicycle chains, escalators, machinery and uneven surfaces. He noted that surplus fabric may increase the likelihood of tripping, particularly while climbing stairs or walking on irregular ground, making correct sizing and alterations important for wearer safety.
Despite the online criticism, Zara has not issued a product recall or released an official statement addressing the allegations. However, social media users have claimed that some Zara stores have accepted returns or exchanges from dissatisfied customers. Reports also indicate that the product listing on the company's website has been updated with additional information about the fabric, although it does not specifically mention the complaints circulating online.
The incident has sparked broader discussions about fashion trends and consumer safety, particularly as oversized clothing continues to gain popularity. While many shoppers believe the trousers pose a genuine tripping hazard, others argue that selecting the appropriate length or tailoring the garment could significantly reduce the risk. In the absence of an official response from Zara, the debate continues across social media as consumers share their experiences and opinions.
