Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay’s family absence from his recent oath-taking ceremony has drawn public attention, even as past remarks by the actor-turned-politician about his son Sanjay have resurfaced online. Vijay, who was sworn in after his party Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam emerged as the single-largest formation in the state elections, saw neither his son Sanjay nor daughter Divya attend the ceremony, further fuelling discussion about reported family differences.

The absence of Vijay’s family members from both the campaign trail and the oath-taking event has been widely noted in political and entertainment circles. Reports suggest that his estranged wife, Sangkeetha, has also been living separately and has filed for divorce in a family court in Chengalpattu district. However, none of these personal matters have been officially addressed by Vijay in his public political role.

In a 2022 interview during the promotions of the film “Beast,” Vijay had spoken about his son Sanjay’s future career choices in a conversation with director Nelson Dilipkumar. At the time, he had clearly stated that his son was free to choose his own path and that he would not impose expectations on him. Vijay had said he had no knowledge of what Sanjay wished to pursue and would fully support whatever decision he made.

The chief minister had also revealed that several film directors had approached him regarding a possible acting debut for his son, but Sanjay had reportedly asked for time and space, stating that he was not ready to make a decision. Vijay emphasised that he never pressured his children into following his profession and allowed them complete freedom in choosing their careers.

In the same interview, Vijay also reflected on his relationship with his father, film producer S. A. Chandrasekhar, recalling their differences when his father attempted to launch a political party using his fan base without his consent. Vijay had publicly distanced himself from the move at the time, stating that neither he nor his fan clubs were involved.

Meanwhile, speculation around Vijay’s personal life has intensified on social media following his public appearances with actor Trisha Krishnan at key events, including the recent oath-taking ceremony. However, no official confirmation or statement has been made regarding these rumours, and political observers caution against drawing conclusions based on unverified claims.
