The United States has ordered the deployment of its newest and largest aircraft carrier, the USS Gerald R. Ford, to the Middle East amid escalating tensions with Iran, according to multiple US media reports on Friday. The move comes as Washington steps up pressure on Tehran following stalled negotiations over Iran’s nuclear programme.
The nuclear-powered Ford-class carrier and its escort ships are sailing from the Caribbean Sea toward the region, marking a significant show of force. The deployment is expected to strengthen the US naval presence at a time of heightened geopolitical uncertainty in West Asia.
Once in position, the USS Gerald R. Ford will join the already-deployed USS Abraham Lincoln carrier strike group and other American warships operating in and around the Persian Gulf. The combined presence of two carrier strike groups is seen as a major boost to US military capability in the region.

The redeployment follows renewed friction between Washington and Tehran, with US President Donald Trump increasing diplomatic and strategic pressure on Iran over its nuclear ambitions. Talks aimed at reviving or reshaping the nuclear framework have reportedly remained stalled, contributing to rising tensions.
Analysts say the expanded naval deployment is intended both as a deterrent and as reassurance to US allies in the Middle East. The situation remains fluid, and further military or diplomatic developments are likely to be closely watched in the coming weeks.
