US President Donald Trump has said that a proposed civil nuclear agreement with Saudi Arabia will move forward only if the kingdom joins the Abraham Accords, a framework aimed at normalising diplomatic relations with Israel. Trump also stated that the agreement would not permit uranium enrichment as part of the proposed arrangement.
The proposed deal would allow Saudi Arabia to develop a civilian nuclear energy programme, including the construction of nuclear reactors using US technology. However, the issue of uranium enrichment has remained a major point of discussion in nuclear negotiations, as enrichment capabilities can have both civilian and military applications.
In a statement on Truth Social, Trump said the civil nuclear agreement would be limited to non-military purposes and would not include enrichment of nuclear material. He compared the proposed arrangement to civilian nuclear programmes in countries such as Iran and the United Arab Emirates, while emphasising that the United States supports non-enriched nuclear facilities.

Trump linked approval of the nuclear agreement to Saudi Arabia joining the Abraham Accords, which were established during his previous administration to promote diplomatic normalisation between Israel and several Arab nations. Saudi Arabia has not yet joined the agreements, despite previous discussions about potential cooperation with Israel.
The proposed nuclear partnership is part of broader efforts to strengthen US-Saudi relations and expand cooperation in energy and technology sectors. Saudi Arabia has been seeking greater investment and international partnerships to support its long-term energy strategy and economic diversification plans.
The issue of nuclear safeguards and enrichment rights has been a central concern in discussions between Washington and Riyadh. Any future agreement would require negotiations over security measures, technology transfers and conditions to ensure that the programme remains focused on civilian energy needs.
