US President Donald Trump has warned that the United States would target infrastructure in Iran, including bridges and power plants near Tehran, if Iranian forces attack ships in the Strait of Hormuz. The statement came amid escalating tensions between Washington and Tehran following a series of military strikes and growing disputes over the strategic waterway.
In a post on social media platform X, Trump said any attack on ships in the Strait of Hormuz using missiles, rockets, drones or other weapons would trigger a US response. He stated that the United States would “bomb and destroy” one bridge or power plant in Iran, including facilities located near or inside the capital city.
The warning followed another round of US strikes on Iran, during which Iranian air defence systems reportedly opened fire over Tehran. The escalation came after Iran launched a missile attack targeting a Jordanian city near Israel, while security alerts were also issued in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia.

The latest US military action marked another strike campaign against Iran as diplomatic efforts showed limited public progress. The Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most important energy shipping routes, has remained at the centre of tensions, with disruptions linked to Iranian military activity affecting regional security concerns.
Trump also said earlier that the United States was not finished with its military operations against Iran and claimed the country would need decades to rebuild from the damage caused by the conflict. He said Iran could require more than 20 years to recover if the US ended its campaign immediately.
Despite reports of indirect communications between the two sides, Trump rejected the possibility of immediate negotiations with Tehran, saying talks would only take place if Iran was prepared for meaningful discussions. Iranian officials, however, have said diplomatic communication through intermediaries is continuing.
Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, whose country has acted as a mediator, urged all parties to show restraint during talks with Iranian Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni. The situation remains tense as military actions and diplomatic efforts continue to unfold in the region.
