Rae Bareli police successfully rescued a 16-year-old girl within eight hours on Wednesday after she was reported missing from her home in Bela Gusisi village. The teen was found safe in a hotel in the Unchahar area, and two accused, including a known acquaintance, have been arrested.
The incident came to light when the girl’s family noticed her absence. Her younger brother returned from school around 1 pm and informed their mother that his sister was missing. The family immediately alerted Dial-112 and began searching for her, raising alarms about her safety.
The situation escalated when the family received a threatening message on Instagram, showing a photo of the girl tied to a chair and appearing unconscious. The sender warned that her body would be discovered in the Sai river the next day, prompting the family to lodge a formal complaint with Bhadokhar police station.

Acting swiftly, the police traced the girl to a hotel in Unchahar and rescued her unharmed. Superintendent of Police Dr. Yashveer Singh confirmed the arrest of Sahil Maurya, a person known to the girl, and his associate. The investigation is ongoing to determine the full motive behind the kidnapping and the online threats.
Officials emphasized the prompt coordination between local police units and digital tracking teams, which helped locate the girl within hours. The successful operation highlights the increasing role of rapid response mechanisms in addressing crimes against minors in Uttar Pradesh.
The girl’s family expressed their gratitude to the police for their swift action. In recognition of the effective rescue, members of the Rae Bareli Central Bar honoured the SP with a shawl and bouquet, commending the team for ensuring the teenager’s safe return.
