US President Donald Trump on Thursday threatened Yemen’s Houthi rebels with “major military punishment” following missile and drone attacks on oil tankers in the Red Sea. Trump said the United States would hold Iran responsible for future Houthi actions, accusing Tehran of supporting the group as a proxy force.

In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump warned that any further attacks by the Houthis would result in a strong military response. He said the US considered Iran accountable because of what he described as the relationship between Tehran and the Yemen-based group.

The warning came after Houthi rebels claimed responsibility for attacks on Saudi-linked oil tankers in the Red Sea, raising concerns over the security of one of the world’s most important maritime trade routes.
