US President Donald Trump has issued a stark warning to Iran, stating that American airstrikes will pause only temporarily but could resume if Tehran fails to agree to a deal. The remarks come amid heightened military tensions in the Middle East, with ongoing strikes and counter-claims between Washington and Tehran escalating concerns of a broader regional conflict.
In comments reported by US media and shared on his Truth Social platform, Trump said that the decision to halt bombing was made following what he described as a request from Iranian officials. However, he emphasised that the pause was conditional, warning that strikes could resume the following day if no agreement is reached. He also used unusually direct language, underscoring the severity of the ultimatum.
Trump’s statement suggested that Iran had initiated communication seeking an end to the bombing campaign, though he added that the United States reserves the right to strike again at any time. The remarks mark one of his most forceful public warnings since the escalation of hostilities began, highlighting the fragile and rapidly shifting nature of the situation.

The escalation follows reports from US Central Command of continued “self-defence strikes” targeting multiple locations inside Iran. Iranian media, meanwhile, reported explosions in southern regions near the Strait of Hormuz, including areas such as Qeshm, Kargan and Sirik. Earlier strikes were said to have focused on radar systems, air defence infrastructure and other military installations.
Iranian authorities have strongly denied claims of direct communication with Washington, rejecting Trump’s assertion that officials requested a halt in bombing. Iranian media outlets described the claims as false and stated that Tehran was responding decisively to what it called unlawful attacks. The country has also taken further steps in response to the escalating conflict.
Adding to global concerns, Iran announced the closure of the Strait of Hormuz to maritime traffic, warning that vessels attempting to pass through the strategic waterway could be targeted. The Strait is a critical global energy route, and any disruption is expected to have significant implications for international oil supplies and shipping stability.
As tensions continue to rise, US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth stated that Iran still has an opportunity to reach a diplomatic agreement but warned that future strikes would be “strong” and “clear.” The situation remains highly volatile, with both sides signalling readiness for further escalation while leaving limited space for immediate de-escalation.
