US President Donald Trump described the interception of Iranian ballistic missiles targeting a US military base in Jordan, using repeated “bing, bing, bing” sound effects to mimic the moment each missile was brought down. During a public appearance with Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Trump highlighted the role of American and allied air defence systems while praising the capabilities of the Patriot missile system.

Trump claimed that five Iranian missiles were intercepted before reaching their intended target, stating that the US and its partners successfully neutralised the threat. He praised American air defence technology, calling the Patriot systems “incredible” and asserting that the United States possesses some of the most advanced capabilities in the world.

The remarks referred to a late July missile attack in which Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) launched ballistic missiles towards a US military facility in Jordan. US Central Command (CENTCOM) described the incident as an attempted surprise attack, while confirming that all incoming missiles were intercepted before causing damage or casualties.

Jordan’s official news agency also confirmed that the country’s air defence systems intercepted five missiles launched from Iranian territory. Jordan hosts thousands of US military personnel, including troops stationed at Muwaffaq Salti Air Base, King Faisal Air Base and the US logistics facility known as Tower 22 near the borders with Syria and Iraq.

The missile attack came after Trump had temporarily halted US strikes to allow space for diplomatic efforts amid rising tensions with Iran. The incident marked one of the latest confrontations in a wider regional conflict involving Iranian missile and drone attacks targeting US and allied positions.

Trump has repeatedly referred to American air defence operations during the ongoing conflict, often recounting battlefield developments through informal descriptions. The Jordan incident followed earlier attacks on US and allied installations in the region, including missile and drone threats targeting bases in Saudi Arabia and interceptions involving US Navy and NATO-supported Patriot systems.
