A devastating accident claimed the lives of seven people and left several others injured when a pick-up van veered off a road in the hilly terrain of Pune district, Maharashtra, on Monday. The victims, residents of Papalwadi village, were traveling to Kundeshwar Temple in Khed tehsil to observe an auspicious day during the Shravan month, according to local authorities.
The incident occurred as the vehicle, carrying approximately 30 to 35 passengers, including women and children, navigated a challenging ghat section. A preliminary investigation by the Pimpri Chinchwad police revealed that the van plunged 25 to 30 feet off the road, leading to the tragic loss of life. The injured were promptly rushed to nearby hospitals for treatment.
Police officials are continuing their investigation to determine the exact cause of the accident, with further details expected soon. The incident has cast a somber shadow over the community, highlighting the dangers of navigating treacherous hilly routes.
