A devastating collapse at Piplodi Government School in Rajasthan’s Jhalawar district killed seven children and injured 27 on Friday, triggering widespread condemnation from Congress leaders against the BJP government. The incident occurred during a morning assembly when a section of the middle school building, housing Classes 6 and 7, caved in, trapping students under debris. The youngest victim was just six years old.
Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge called the tragedy “painful and shameful,” slamming the BJP for ignoring complaints about dilapidated school infrastructure. “A government that can’t fix school roofs dreams of ‘Viksit Bharat’,” he posted on X, pointing to similar neglect in Jodhpur, where students study under a tree, and in Delhi, where flooding endangered nursery children.
Rahul Gandhi, former Congress chief, accused the BJP of valuing power over lives, noting that most victims were from the marginalized Bahujan Samaj. “These innocent children lost their lives due to ignored complaints,” he said on X, demanding an impartial investigation and harsh punishment for those responsible.

Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Congress general secretary, called for immediate probes and strict action, attributing the deaths to “serious negligence.” Frantic rescue efforts involved parents, teachers, and locals sifting through concrete and rubble to save trapped children.
The collapse has intensified scrutiny of the BJP’s infrastructure management, with Kharge citing frequent bridge collapses and train accidents. As public anger grows, calls for accountability in this preventable tragedy are mounting.
