A catastrophic collapse of the Gambhira Bridge over the Mahisagar River in Gujarat’s Vadodara district sent four vehicles, including two trucks and two vans, plunging into the river on Wednesday morning. The incident, which occurred around 7:30 am, disrupted a vital state highway connecting Anand, Vadodara, Bharuch, and Saurashtra.
Padra police inspector Vijay Charan confirmed that rescue operations are underway, with four individuals rescued so far. Local authorities, supported by fire brigade teams and divers, are working tirelessly to locate any additional survivors.
The cause of the collapse remains under investigation, with preliminary reports suggesting structural issues exacerbated by monsoon potholes. The incident has raised concerns about the bridge’s history as a notorious “suicide point.”
