Delhi Traffic Police has announced traffic restrictions and diversions around the Red Fort on August 13 ahead of the Independence Day 2026 full-dress rehearsal. The restrictions will be in force from 4 am to 10 am as part of security arrangements for the rehearsal and to facilitate the movement of traffic in the area. Commuters travelling through central and north Delhi during the morning hours have been advised to plan their journeys in advance and allow additional time for travel.
Motorists have been asked to avoid roads and stretches where restrictions are imposed during the specified hours and use alternate routes wherever possible. The traffic measures are intended to prevent congestion and ensure orderly movement around the Red Fort, where preparations are underway for the Independence Day celebrations. People travelling through the affected areas should check their routes before leaving and consider starting their journeys earlier than usual.
Delhi Traffic Police personnel will be deployed at various locations to manage traffic and assist commuters during the restrictions. Motorists have been advised to follow traffic signs, designated diversion routes and instructions issued by traffic personnel. Commuters should avoid attempting to enter restricted stretches, as doing so could lead to delays and disrupt the movement of vehicles in the surrounding areas.

The traffic restrictions are particularly relevant for people travelling through central and north Delhi during the morning peak period. Those with essential journeys through the affected areas have been advised to factor additional travel time into their schedules. Public and private vehicle users should remain alert to temporary changes in traffic movement and follow directions provided by personnel deployed on the roads.
The restrictions have been imposed in connection with the full-dress rehearsal for Independence Day 2026 at the Red Fort. Traffic and security arrangements are being put in place ahead of the main Independence Day celebrations to manage vehicular movement around the venue. Similar restrictions are commonly implemented around major national events to maintain security and minimise disruption in surrounding areas.
Commuters travelling on August 13 are therefore advised to plan their routes before leaving home, start early where possible and avoid restricted roads between 4 am and 10 am. Following alternate routes, traffic signs and instructions from Delhi Traffic Police can help reduce delays during the rehearsal. Authorities have urged motorists to cooperate with traffic personnel and allow additional travel time while the special arrangements remain in place.
