Torrential overnight rains wreaked havoc in Bengaluru, transforming the city into a waterlogged mess on Friday morning. The relentless downpour, which began late Thursday night and continued intermittently, inundated low-lying areas, triggered massive traffic snarls, and left commuters stranded across key stretches of the city. The sudden deluge exposed Bengaluru’s chronic infrastructure challenges, with newly formed potholes adding to the woes of motorists, especially two-wheeler riders navigating treacherous roads.
According to the Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre (KSNDMC), Bengaluru city recorded 65.5 mm of rainfall in the 24 hours leading up to 5:30 AM, while the city’s Automatic Weather Station (AWS) reported 66 mm. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a yellow alert for Bengaluru, forecasting light to moderate rain with thundershowers, lightning, and gusty winds of 30–40 kmph at isolated spots. The alert also covers Vijayapura, Bidar, Kalaburagi, Tumakuru, Kolar, and Chikkaballapura, signaling more wet weather ahead. The IMD warned of potential disruptions, including temporary power outages, waterlogging, and the uprooting of weak tree branches.
