The Telangana government has increased the upper age limit for direct recruitment to state government jobs by 10 years for a period of one year, providing major relief to unemployed youth seeking public sector employment. The decision was formalised through Government Order (G.O.) No. 86, issued by the state, which revises the eligibility criteria under the Telangana State and Subordinate Service Rules, 1996.
With the latest order, the upper age limit has been raised from 34 years to 44 years for candidates applying to direct recruitment posts, excluding uniformed services. Officials said the move is intended to widen opportunities for job aspirants who may have crossed the earlier age threshold due to delays in recruitment cycles and prolonged gaps in government hiring.
The government noted that several representations had been received from unemployed youth requesting relaxation in the upper age limit to ensure greater participation in upcoming recruitment drives. After reviewing these appeals, authorities decided to grant the relaxation for a limited period of one year, applicable to posts notified by various recruiting agencies across the state.

This decision comes after earlier relaxations under G.O. No. 30 issued on February 8, 2024, which had temporarily increased the upper age limit by up to 12 years in certain categories, raising it to a maximum of 46 years before it later lapsed in February 2026. With its expiry, the eligibility criteria had reverted to the previous baseline of 34 years, prompting renewed demands for extension.
The issue has also drawn political attention, with Telangana Rakshana Sena leader K. Kavitha demanding that the government fully implement the earlier relaxation and cancel restrictive recruitment notifications issued by various departments. She alleged that despite promises of large-scale job creation, recruitment drives have not progressed as expected, leading to growing frustration among unemployed youth.
Officials said the latest relaxation aims to balance administrative requirements with public demand and ensure broader participation in government recruitment processes. The move is expected to benefit thousands of job aspirants across Telangana, particularly those who have aged out during the extended gap in notifications.
