A couple has been arrested in Telangana’s Suryapet district for allegedly subjecting their two young sons to repeated physical abuse, including beatings with iron rods and burns caused by cigarettes and heated objects. The accused have been identified as 43-year-old truck driver Nakirikanti Ravi and his wife, Indu, while the children are aged five and two.
According to officials, the boys were allegedly assaulted repeatedly at the family’s residence in Huzurnagar. Both children were found with multiple burn and scratch marks, while the younger boy had suffered a fracture to his left wrist. Authorities said the nature of the injuries indicated that the alleged abuse may have continued over several days.
The incident came to light after neighbours heard the children crying and noticed visible injuries on their bodies. Alarmed by their condition, local residents alerted the authorities and helped rescue the boys. Officials from the Integrated Child Development Services, District Child Protection Unit and Childline then arranged immediate medical attention for the children.

ICDS supervisor Somu Nirmala, who filed the complaint, said preliminary inquiries with neighbours suggested that the alleged abuse had been continuing for several days. Officials said the children were allegedly subjected to repeated branding with heated ladles, cigarette burns and verbal abuse in addition to physical assaults.
Police said Ravi had separated from his first wife nearly a decade ago and married Indu, a divorcee, four years ago. One of the boys is Indu’s son from her previous marriage, while the younger child was born to the couple. During questioning, the accused allegedly said they considered the children an impediment to their personal freedom and vented their frustration on them.
A case has been registered under Sections 118(1) and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Section 75 of the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act. After receiving medical treatment, the children were shifted to a government-run children’s home in Suryapet, while the accused couple is expected to be produced before a court for remand proceedings.
