An Indian woman visiting Japan had an unexpected experience after she accidentally left her purse in the basket of a rented bicycle. The purse contained cash, house keys and a recently purchased DJI microphone, with the total value of the belongings estimated at around Rs 1 lakh. She later discovered that a stranger had found the purse and handed it over to the police with its contents intact.
Sonam Midha shared the experience in a video on Instagram, explaining that she and a friend had arrived at a restaurant on rented bicycles. She had placed her purse in the bicycle basket before entering the restaurant but forgot to take it with her. About an hour later, when she was leaving, she realised that the purse was missing and returned to search the bicycle and nearby area.
After failing to locate it, Midha decided to visit a police station and report the loss. She informed officers about the purse and described the belongings inside it, including the cash, keys and DJI microphone. The situation changed when an officer told her that a similar purse had been handed over to the station shortly before she arrived.

Midha immediately recognised the purse when it was shown to her. The stranger who found it had turned it in to the police, allowing her to recover all of her belongings. The return of the purse came as a relief after she had feared that the items, including the expensive electronic equipment and personal belongings, might have been permanently lost.
Moved by the experience, Midha praised the kindness of the people in Japan and expressed gratitude for the stranger who returned her belongings. She described the incident as a reminder that humanity still exists and shared her appreciation for the way her lost property was handled.
The incident also prompted other social media users to share similar experiences in Japan. One user recalled having a comparable experience and said it changed their perception of the country, while another described the incident as an example of what they considered to be the “beauty of Japan”. Midha's account has since drawn attention to her positive experience while travelling in the country.
