Jammu and Kashmir has witnessed normalcy, peace and development since Prime Minister Narendra Modi took office, Minister of State in the PMO Jitendra Singh said on Sunday, while highlighting changes in the Union Territory and growing aspirations among its youth.
Speaking to reporters after a BJP workers' meeting in Srinagar, Singh noted that the party had held such organisational meetings across Jammu and Kashmir for years, but said the latest gathering in Srinagar was significant as it was being held there after a considerable gap. He attributed what he described as a change in the region's atmosphere to developments during the Modi government's tenure.
Singh said the return of routine activity and faster development had also influenced the outlook of young people in Kashmir. He pointed to the growth of lavender farming and the ongoing "Purple Revolution" as examples of emerging economic opportunities. He also referred to the construction of new dams and linked the region's development with the broader goal of building a Viksit Bharat by 2047.

The Union Minister also spoke about India's achievements in space, noting the Chandrayaan-3 landing near the Moon's south polar region. He argued that India's scientific talent had always been strong but required greater institutional and political support. Singh also highlighted the opening of the space sector to private participation under the Modi government, stating that the expansion of the space economy had helped India strengthen its position globally.
Several senior BJP leaders attended the Srinagar meeting, including Jammu and Kashmir BJP president Sat Sharma, Leader of Opposition Sunil Sharma, former Deputy Chief Minister Nirmal Singh and BJP MP Gulam Ali Khatana. Sunil Sharma noted that party workers from across Jammu and Kashmir participated in the meeting, where the BJP's strategy for the upcoming Assembly session of the Union Territory was discussed.
Khatana also focused on the BJP's position on Jammu and Kashmir's territorial status, reiterating the party's stand on Pakistan-occupied territory. He also criticised the Congress and Rahul Gandhi, accusing them of engaging in vote-bank politics and disrupting parliamentary proceedings. The meeting comes as the BJP continues to focus on organisational activity and its political strategy in Jammu and Kashmir.
