In a major step toward bridging the digital divide, Elon Musk’s satellite internet company, Starlink, has signed a letter of intent (LoI) with the Gujarat government to provide high-speed satellite-based connectivity across the state. The signing ceremony was attended by Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi, marking the beginning of a pilot project targeting remote and underserved areas.
The initiative aims to deliver reliable internet to regions with limited telecom infrastructure, including border districts, tribal areas, and wildlife sanctuaries. Aspirational tribal districts such as Narmada and Dahod are expected to be primary beneficiaries, receiving enhanced digital inclusion through connectivity to government services, schools, and tele-medicine facilities.
Under the project, Common Service Centres (CSCs), e-Governance offices, district disaster management control rooms, and police outposts will be connected via Starlink’s satellite internet. The system is designed to strengthen public service delivery, enhance security operations, and ensure uninterrupted communication during emergencies.

Education and healthcare will receive a significant boost through smart connectivity. State schools will benefit from digital learning platforms, while Primary Health Centres (PHCs) will gain improved access to telemedicine and remote healthcare services, particularly in areas where traditional broadband connectivity is unreliable or unavailable.
The LoI also emphasizes industrial and infrastructure development, targeting GIDC industrial parks, highway monitoring systems, maritime operations, and coastal policing. By ensuring stable and high-speed internet across these sectors, the initiative is expected to strengthen trade, logistics, and public safety in the state.
A Joint Working Group, composed of representatives from the Gujarat government and Starlink, will oversee the implementation of the project. This partnership positions Gujarat as a pioneer in leveraging satellite-based internet technology for inclusive growth, disaster management, and digital governance in India.
