At least six people were injured on Sunday after a speeding Lamborghini allegedly driven by the son of a prominent tobacco trader rammed into pedestrians and two-wheelers on VIP Road in Kanpur’s upscale Gwaltoli area, police said. The accident occurred around 3.15 pm near Rev-3 Mall, causing panic in the busy commercial locality.
According to the police, the luxury car was reportedly being driven by Shivam Mishra, son of businessman KK Mishra, when it went out of control and ploughed into people standing along the roadside and several vehicles. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central) Atul Kumar Srivastava said the car first struck an auto-rickshaw before crashing into a parked Royal Enfield motorcycle.
Eyewitnesses described the impact as severe, claiming that the motorcycle rider was flung nearly 10 feet into the air. The Lamborghini mounted the motorcycle’s front wheel and dragged it for some distance before finally hitting an electric pole and coming to a halt. Several pedestrians were also knocked down during the incident.

Police said one of the injured, identified as Taufiq, a resident of Yamunaganj, was thrown several metres and suffered serious leg injuries. Others sustained fractures and bruises. All the injured were rushed to a private hospital, where they were provided primary treatment and are reported to be out of danger.
Following the crash, angry locals gathered at the spot and surrounded the vehicle, forcing the driver to remain inside until police arrived. Witnesses alleged that private bouncers accompanying the accused attempted to push back the crowd and behaved aggressively, escalating tensions. Later, a chaotic situation unfolded at the police station, with residents alleging that police were going soft on the accused due to his family’s influence and delaying the registration of a case.
DCP Srivastava said the Lamborghini has been seized and taken to the police station, and an FIR will be registered based on the complaints received. He added that further legal action would follow as the investigation progresses. KK Mishra runs Banshidhar Exports Pvt Ltd, a firm involved in supplying tobacco to gutkha manufacturers in the region.
