South Korea is reeling from five days of relentless downpours that have left 14 people dead and 12 others missing, the government reported Sunday. The catastrophic rains triggered landslides, house collapses, and flash floods, causing widespread destruction.
In Gapyeong, northeast of Seoul, one person perished when their home collapsed under the relentless rain, while another was swept away by a swollen stream. The southern town of Sancheong was hit hard on Saturday, with eight fatalities and six missing due to landslides and flooding. Six others remain unaccounted for in Gapyeong and Gwangju.
The tragedy began earlier this week when three people drowned in a submerged car. In Osan, just south of Seoul, a motorist was killed when a collapsing overpass retaining wall buried their vehicle in soil and concrete.
