Veteran actor-turned-politician Shatrughan Sinha has firmly denied speculation linking him to a reported “rebel” faction within the Trinamool Congress (TMC), asserting his continued loyalty to party chief Mamata Banerjee amid rising internal tensions in the party. His clarification comes after his name surfaced in media reports suggesting he was among MPs associated with a letter allegedly submitted to the Lok Sabha Speaker.
The speculation gained traction after Sinha posted a message on social media congratulating Prime Minister Narendra Modi on completing 12 years in office. In his post, he praised Modi’s long tenure in what he described as a “sportsman spirit” message, wishing him good health and success. The post, which also tagged Mamata Banerjee, triggered political chatter about his possible alignment amid reported factional activity within the party.
However, Sinha quickly moved to dismiss the claims, stating that reports of his involvement in any rebel grouping were false and misleading. He categorically rejected suggestions that he was part of any internal dissent against the Trinamool Congress leadership or that he had signed any document distancing himself from the party’s official position in Parliament.

Reaffirming his allegiance, the Asansol MP said he would “never leave Didi,” referring to Mamata Banerjee, and credited her for supporting him during difficult phases of his political journey. He emphasised that his association with the Trinamool Congress was based on trust and personal commitment, not opportunistic alignment.
Sinha also noted that his candidature from Asansol in the Lok Sabha elections was made possible at the insistence of Mamata Banerjee, further underlining his connection to the party leadership. He reiterated that despite ongoing speculation, he remains firmly aligned with the Trinamool Congress and has no intention of joining any rival grouping or political realignment.
The clarification comes at a time when the Trinamool Congress is facing heightened scrutiny over alleged internal divisions, with multiple reports of dissent and counterclaims emerging from within its parliamentary ranks. While several names have been linked to the so-called rebel camp, a number of leaders have publicly denied involvement, adding to the uncertainty surrounding the extent of the reported factional split.
