The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has officially rolled out the full version of the new Aadhaar app on both Android and iOS platforms, introducing a refreshed, mobile-first experience for users. Designed to make Aadhaar services more accessible and user-friendly, the app allows individuals to manage their digital identity directly from their smartphones while supporting 13 Indian languages to reach a wider population.
In addition to core Aadhaar-related services such as downloading and sharing a digital Aadhaar card, locking biometrics, updating mobile numbers and addresses, and managing family-linked requests, the app introduces a new non-Aadhaar feature aimed at everyday convenience. This feature enables users to share their contact details digitally through a QR code-based system.
Known as the “Share Contact” feature, the tool allows users to generate a scannable QR code containing their name and phone number. The feature is designed to simplify contact sharing, particularly in situations such as meetings, events, conferences, or social gatherings where exchanging details manually can be time-consuming or inconvenient.

UIDAI said the new app has been built with a mobile-first approach, focusing on ease of use and quick access to essential services. Unlike some platform-specific contact-sharing tools that rely on Near-Field Communication (NFC) and are limited to certain devices, the Aadhaar app’s QR-based contact card works across smartphones, making it accessible to a broader range of users, including Android users who previously lacked a simple built-in option.
To use the Share Contact feature, users need to open the Aadhaar app, navigate to the contact-sharing section, and generate their digital contact card. Once created, the QR code can be scanned by others using their phone camera or a QR scanner, instantly saving the shared name and phone number without manual entry.
With the addition of this feature, the new Aadhaar app extends beyond identity management and positions itself as a practical digital utility. By combining official identification services with everyday tools like contact sharing, UIDAI aims to enhance the app’s relevance in daily digital interactions while maintaining a focus on accessibility and user convenience.
