Senior Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Sharad Pawar was admitted to Ruby Hall Clinic in Pune on Monday after experiencing a bout of coughing and breathing difficulties. The 86-year-old politician was moved from Baramati in a private vehicle and is currently staying in a private room, with no need for intensive care.
According to hospital authorities, Pawar’s condition is stable. Dr. Abhijit Lodha of Ruby Hall Clinic stated that the octogenarian’s symptoms are linked to physical exertion and chest congestion. Medical tests are ongoing, and decisions regarding further treatment, including a possible transfer to Mumbai, will be made after the results are reviewed.
The senior leader was accompanied by family members, including his daughter and Lok Sabha MP Supriya Sule, son-in-law Sadanand Sule, and grand-nephew Rohit Pawar, who urged party workers not to crowd the hospital. “There is nothing to fear or worry. The family requests adherence to hospital protocols, and meetings with him are currently restricted,” Rohit Pawar said.

Sharad Pawar has been under considerable stress following the tragic death of his nephew, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, in a January 28 air crash. In the weeks since, he attended multiple condolence meetings and public events, which may have contributed to his current health issues.
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis extended his best wishes for Pawar’s speedy recovery, noting that stress could have played a role in the illness. Hospital sources confirmed that Pawar is not on any life-support measures and is expected to recover, with updates to follow once test reports are available.
The NCP and supporters have been advised to respect the hospital’s protocols as Sharad Pawar continues to receive treatment, ensuring his recovery in a calm and controlled environment.
