Seven people, including six pilgrims, died in a tragic road accident on a highway in Gujarat’s Surendranagar district on Sunday night, after a speeding truck ran over a group walking along the roadside. The incident occurred on the Lakhtar–Viramgam Highway near Bhaskarpara village and has triggered concerns over road safety and reckless driving in the region. Police said the victims were part of a religious group travelling on foot.
According to officials, the pilgrims were moving from Gadhka village in Rajkot district towards a temple in Dekawala when the accident took place. They were walking along the highway when they attempted to pass a stationary dumper that had stopped on the roadside for a tyre change. At that moment, a speeding truck approached from behind and rammed into the group, hitting nearly ten people.
The impact of the collision was severe, killing six pilgrims on the spot. The dumper driver was also critically injured in the crash and later succumbed to injuries while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Viramgam. Eyewitnesses alerted authorities immediately, and police teams rushed to the scene to carry out rescue and recovery operations.
