At least 10 people were killed and dozens more injured on Monday after Russian missile and drone strikes hit multiple cities across Ukraine, including Dnipro, Kharkiv and Zaporizhzhia, according to Ukrainian authorities. Emergency services and local officials said the attacks caused extensive damage to civilian infrastructure, with rescue operations continuing as emergency workers searched affected areas. The latest wave of strikes comes as the conflict between Russia and Ukraine continues to inflict heavy civilian casualties and widespread destruction.
The deadliest attack was reported in the southeastern city of Dnipro, where a missile strike killed at least six people and injured 29 others, regional governor Oleksandr Hanzha said. The strike damaged a business, a school, private homes and several vehicles, leaving emergency responders working through the debris. Officials warned that the casualty toll could rise further as search and rescue efforts continued throughout the day.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed the attack, stating that rescue operations were underway in the affected areas. He urged Ukraine's international partners, particularly European nations, to strengthen the country's air defence capabilities, arguing that enhanced protection is essential to shield civilians and critical infrastructure from continued aerial attacks. Ukrainian authorities have repeatedly appealed for additional air defence systems amid ongoing missile and drone strikes.

Separate attacks were also reported in Kharkiv and Zaporizhzhia, where explosions caused further casualties and damage to residential and public infrastructure. Local officials said emergency services were deployed immediately to assist victims, extinguish fires and assess the extent of the destruction. Authorities continued to monitor the situation as additional reports emerged from the affected regions.
The latest bombardment underscores the continued intensity of the war, with both military and civilian areas frequently coming under attack. Ukrainian officials have maintained that Russia's sustained strikes are aimed at weakening infrastructure and disrupting daily life, while emergency agencies remain on high alert to respond to further attacks across the country.
The Russia-Ukraine conflict, which has entered its fifth year, continues to have devastating humanitarian consequences. International leaders have repeatedly called for greater protection of civilians and adherence to international humanitarian law, while diplomatic efforts to end the conflict have made little progress. As rescue operations continue, authorities are expected to provide updated casualty figures and further assessments of the damage caused by Monday's strikes.
